Happy Steve Irwin Day!

Crikey! Tomorrow, November 15, is Steve Irwin Day. The late Steve Irwin, better known as The Crocodile Hunter, was a famous Australian ecologist. Today we celebrated Steve Irwin Day by learning about South Carolina's state reptile, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle. We learned about how we can help keep this amazing animal around for years to come. Ask you child how he or she can make the world a safer place for these reptiles.

Baby Pumpkin Week October 27-31

Throughout the week of October 27-31, students participated in a Baby Pumpkin project. Students "adopted" a small pumpkin and cared for it both at school and at home. We used this pumpkin as the subject for various writing activities. We learned how to use descriptive words (adjectives) when writing about our pumpkins and wrote in several genres including adventure stories and non-fiction. The students sharpened their writing skills and had a wonderful time celebrating fall!Mrs. Bean helps students put eyes on their pumpkins. (Most of the eyes fell off!)

Students work hard on their pumpkins' baby books.

This is Aaron's pumpkin's carrier. He named his pumpkin America because he felt it was a strong name.

Spider Day-October 23, 2008

On Thursday, October 23, 2008, we celebrated the story Charlotte's Web by making shirts in Charlotte's honor. The students did a wonderful job creating their own special web for their own special spider. Thank you to all the parents who came and helped!

Great Gator of the Day

Our first Great Gator of the Day for this school year was Maddie. Maddie was chosen because she follows SNAP rules everyday. Maddie was so happy that she almost cried when she walked down to the office. When she got there, Mrs. Farris (our principal) and Maddie's Mom and Dad were waiting to see her. We were very excited to have a Great Gator in our classroom. Congratulations Maddie!
