Our second Great Gator of the Day is Alex Guzman-Michel! Alex was chosen because he is such a hard worker at school. He follows the SNAP rules and is a good friend to all of his classmates. Way to go Alex!
Santa has set up shop at FDES! We will be going shopping on Friday, December 5 and Friday, December 12. All items are $2.00 each. Please send money to school with your child on or before our shopping days.
Thanksgiving Break begins tomorrow, Wednesday, November 26 through Sunday, November 30. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday! See you in December!
Crikey! Tomorrow, November 15, is Steve Irwin Day. The late Steve Irwin, better known as The Crocodile Hunter, was a famous Australian ecologist. Today we celebrated Steve Irwin Day by learning about South Carolina's state reptile, the Loggerhead Sea Turtle. We learned about how we can help keep this amazing animal around for years to come. Ask you child how he or she can make the world a safer place for these reptiles.
Throughout the week of October 27-31, students participated in a Baby Pumpkin project. Students "adopted" a small pumpkin and cared for it both at school and at home. We used this pumpkin as the subject for various writing activities. We learned how to use descriptive words (adjectives) when writing about our pumpkins and wrote in several genres including adventure stories and non-fiction. The students sharpened their writing skills and had a wonderful time celebrating fall!Mrs. Bean helps students put eyes on their pumpkins. (Most of the eyes fell off!)
Students work hard on their pumpkins' baby books.

On Thursday, October 23, 2008, we celebrated the story Charlotte's Web by making shirts in Charlotte's honor. The students did a wonderful job creating their own special web for their own special spider. Thank you to all the parents who came and helped!

We have been busy, busy, busy in 2A all throughout the month of October! We participated in many exciting projects including Charlotte's Web, Pumpkin Babies, Red Ribbon Week, and Trunk or Treat. A special thank you to all the parents who helped with these projects and who sent in materials.
Be on the lookout for pictures in the next few days!
Our first Great Gator of the Day for this school year was Maddie. Maddie was chosen because she follows SNAP rules everyday. Maddie was so happy that she almost cried when she walked down to the office. When she got there, Mrs. Farris (our principal) and Maddie's Mom and Dad were waiting to see her. We were very excited to have a Great Gator in our classroom. Congratulations Maddie!

My name is Kelli Staggs, and this is my third year teaching. I have taught 3rd grade for the past two years in Lexington School District One, and I am very excited to now be teaching 2nd grade at FDES. I am married to Chad Staggs, a football coach at Charleston Southern University. Go Bucs! We have one daughter, Anna Grace, who just turned one. We also have a very spoiled Yorkie named Lilly. I received my Bachelors of Arts in Experimental Psychology in 2005 and my Masters of Art in Teaching Early Childhood Education in 2006 from the University of South Carolina. In my free time I enjoy reading good books, watching LOTS of football with my husband, visiting family and friends, and spending time with my precious daughter.
