Field Day 2009

Field Day 2009 was a huge success! The kids had a blast competing in all of their events, and the parents and teachers had a blast watching! While we might not be the strongest class in 2nd grade (Congratulations Mr. Kruger!), we might have had the most fun. Here are a few pictures of our day.

Frozen Magnets?

Why in the world would you freeze a magnet? For a science project, of course! This week we did a science project for Math and Science Night. Since we studied magnets earlier this year, we decided to use our background knowledge to help us out. Our purpose question was as follows: Will a magnet still work after it is frozen in water? Do you have a prediction? 67% of 2A predicted that yes, the magnet will still attract, and 33% of 2A predicted that no, the magnet will no longer attract. After lots of cold and wet fun, we found out that magnets DO work after they are frozen. Great job 2A scientists!

Tuesday's table checks the measuring cup to make sure they've measured exactly one cup of water.

CJ pours the water into a paper cup.

We put a magnet into the cup of water and then placed it in the freezer overnight.

The next day, we had to peel the paper cups away from our frozen magnets. This was not as easy as it sounds.

Sidnee finally gets the frozen magnet out! Cool!

Monday's table experimented with a round magnet. Looks like the frozen magnet still attracts other magnets.

The frozen magnets even held a chain of paperclips placed end to end.

We had a great time completing our science project, and we'd love for you to get to come see what we did.
Math and Science night is Tuesday, March 24 at 6:00.
Hope to see you there!

Do You Believe in Magic?

We do! Students were able to buy tickets to a magic show using their Gator Bucks. 16 kids in 2A were lucky enough to go to this exciting event, and, boy, was it fun! We even had a couple magician assistants in our midst. Luckily, no one was cut in half :o)

Mr. C the "famous" magician!

2nd and 4th grade students enjoying the show.

Michael was asked to assist with a special trick. He got a magic wand and everything!

A gentleman from 2D volunteered for the "finger chopper." Yikes! Good thing Mr. C is an excellent magician!

A special thank you to Mrs. Lazik and the ladies in the Media Center for putting together this special event.

The 100th Day of School

Whew! Can you believe we've made it this far? Yesterday, February 3, was the 100th day of 2nd grade. I am so proud of how much the students have accomplished and grown. Here are a few pictures of us eating our 100th day treat.

Owen, Kayde, and Michael enjoying our fun trail mix.

Tuesday's table sorted their items.

Christopher is very methodical...Do we have a future engineer on our hands?

Monday's table acting silly!
